When I returned from Peru, I started taking a Spanish class and wrote the following story and gave it as a presentation of my trip to Peru. English then Spanish text.
I took care of my mother who had dementia and other health conditions for 10 years and she died in 2015. With my mother’s help from the settlement of her estate, I treated myself to an adventure and traveled to Peru with friends for three weeks. Although I had kept my passport current since 1985 this was my first time using it.
Cuidé a mi madre que tenía demencia y otras condiciones de salud durante 10 años y ella murió en 2015. Con la ayuda de mi madre desde el establecimiento de su propiedad, me entregué a una aventura y viajé a Perú con amigos durante tres semanas. A pesar de que tenía mi pasaporte actualizado desde 1985, esta era la primera vez que lo usaba.
The intention I had was to reconnect to my art and to experience being in another country. When I started working with computers – digital art, 3D computer animation, Photoshop and websites I lost my connection to the feeling side I had with art. I took some art supplies I could pack lightly and on the advice of friends took some crayons and glitter to give as gifts to children that I might meet there. I didn’t realize that they were actually for me.
La intención que tenía era reconectarme con mi arte y experimentar el estar en otro país. Cuando comencé a trabajar con computadoras, arte digital, animación 3D por computadora, Photoshop y sitios web, perdí mi conexión con el lado de los sentimientos que tenía con el arte. Tomé algunos artículos de arte que pude llevar a la ligera y, siguiendo el consejo de mis amigos, tomé algunos lápices de colores y purpurina para regalar a los niños que podría encontrar allí. No me di cuenta de que en realidad eran para mí.

Very cold to play flute. Wind so strong I held my flute up and let the wind play it.

Village life. Bulding where we stayed. No heat. Some people were very cold with many blankets and clothes on. I slept in my underwear with just two blankets and was very warm.
La vida del pueblo. Bulding donde nos quedamos. Sin calor. Algunas personas tenían mucho frío con muchas mantas y ropa puesta. Dormí en ropa interior con solo dos mantas y hacía mucho calor.
